Institute of Work Psychology, University of Sheffield

Karoline is interested in the underlying mechanisms of organizational behavior. In her research she explores the impact of leadership and organizational context on employees' proactive behavior at work (Strauss, Griffin, & Rafferty, in press). She particularly focuses on future-oriented thinking and the role of employees' self-concept. She investigate how proactive behavior in organizations is guided by individuals' Possible Selves and is currently developing a measure of Possible Selves (Future Work Selves) in organizations. Proactive employees act towards the attainment of a hoped for future, they feel responsible for what they and their organization might become and know how to influence future outcomes. She explores how organizations can increase employees' orientation towards the future and make them feel responsible for their own future and the future of their team or organization.
